Interstellar Technologies Selected for JAXA’s High Accuracy Satellite Formation Flight Technology Theme

• Interstellar has been selected for JAXA’s Satellite Formation Flight Technology Theme program to develop innovative technology with five universities
• Interstellar will leverage this project to strengthen both its launch vehicle and satellite communication capabilities

Hokkaido (Japan), April 25, 2025 – Interstellar Technologies Inc. (“Interstellar” henceforth), a leading space infrastructure company, has been selected for the High Accuracy Satellite Formation Flight Theme*1 program under the Space Strategy Fund led by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The company has officially signed a commissioned research contract with JAXA*2.

This program aims to enhance Japan’s international competitiveness by developing innovative formation flight technology capable of precisely controlling and coordinating the relative positions of a large number of femto-satellites in space. This technology will be developed in collaboration with top five engineering Japanese universities: The University of Osaka, Institute of Science Tokyo, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Shonan Institute of Technology, and University of Aizu. 

The goal is to enable the deployment of large-scale antennas in orbit from Japan, supporting advanced industrial applications such as next-generation broadband satellite communications that can directly connect to smartphones and vehicles. 

Interstellar Technologies is the first company in Japan to pursue a vertically integrated business combining launch vehicles and satellite communications. Satellite communication systems require frequent and flexible launches, making ownership of launch vehicles a key strategic advantage. Through this project, Interstellar will continue to accelerate innovation in both its launch vehicle and satellite businesses.
